COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

SUMMER GRANTS PROGRAM

Our Summer Grants Program provides support, resources, and opportunities for local nonprofit organizations and ministries offering youth enrichment during the summer months, ensuring that students’ learning and personal growth continues beyond the traditional school year. Through this grant opportunity, we provide summer program funding for organizations that deliver education, discipleship, and/or leadership development programming for youth representing underserved communities, with an average award of $5,000.

Our 2024 Summer Grants application window has closed.

To help facilitate these journeys, we partner with organizations across Chattanooga that offer programming and experiences for youth and families and encourage grantees to build relationships with these partners to incorporate their offerings into their summer plans. We host a Meet and Greet event at The Bethlehem Center early each grant cycle to connect partners and potential grantees with one another; more information on our 2024 Meet and Greet will be available soon.

The 2024 application window will open in February of 2024, and grantees are encouraged to apply through our online portal. For more information, please email Lillian at grants@thebeth.org

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Community Connections Summer Grant Program?

The purpose of the Community Connection Summer Grants Program is to support nonprofits and ministries that provide summer program opportunities for vulnerable youth and expand their offerings to include a variety of experiences. We understand that many organizations operate on very tight budgets, often relying on volunteers to support daily operations. Our hope is that through this supportive funding, organizations will be able to meaningfully compensate their employees, sustain their programs, and enhance the summer experiences of the youth they serve. We encourage grantees to work with our Community Partners to plan collaborative programming that includes the arts, outdoors, and spiritual development.

Who is eligible to apply for the grant?

Any organization operating during the months of May through August and working with vulnerable youth may apply for funding.

What types of programs are eligible for funding?

Programs must serve vulnerable youth, take place during the summer break, and offer a Christian education component. We encourage the integration of multidisciplinary activities such as arts and sciences, as well as partnerships with local organizations that offer unique and exciting experiences.

How much funding is available through the grant?

The average funding award is $5,000. Applicants may request larger or smaller amounts depending on the needs of their program.

What is the application process like?

All applications must be submitted online through the portal located on our website. This process includes questions about program content, general operations, and a budget narrative.

Is there a deadline for submitting grant applications?

The application portal will open on Thursday, February 15th, and remain open until Monday, March 25th at 5 pm. Applications will not be accepted after the deadline.

How are grant recipients selected?

Grantees are selected based on the strength of their program proposals and total program impact.

Are there any restrictions on how the grant funds can be used?

Funds must be used to support the operations of summer programming that serves vulnerable youth (ages 4-18). Vulnerable youth have characteristics and experiences that put them at risk of developing problem behaviors and outcomes that have the potential to hurt their community, themselves, or both. Funds must go directly to programming expenses and may not be used to support the organization as a whole.

Is there a reporting requirement for grant recipients?

Grant recipients are required to provide a final report at the end of their programming, detailing the number of youth served, program successes, and any additional feedback.

What happens if my application is not successful?

If an application is not awarded funding, applicants may request feedback from grantors as to why their application was unsuccessful and are encouraged to apply to next year’s cycle.

Can I apply for the grant if I have received funding from other sources?

Yes. We encourage applicants to apply to multiple funding sources. Receiving funding from other sources will not affect the application process.

Is there a geographic restriction for the grant program?

Yes. Applicants must offer programming in Hamilton County, with a priority for those who operate in the city of Chattanooga.

How can I contact the grant program administrators for additional information?

For any questions or additional information, please contact grants@thebeth.org

Is there a limit to the number of times I can apply for the grant?

Applicants are limited to one application per organization per year, but there is no restriction on applying for subsequent cycles. Grantees that have been awarded funds in past years are encouraged to apply again.
