A TEACHER OR COACH WHO CARED

"A Voice with Vision and Victory for the Game of Life"

Have you ever wanted to quit or give up on school, college or an athletic endeavor, but a particular teacher or coach would not let you quit?   Someone went out of their way to give you tough love, they pushed you and pulled you, trying to get you to believe in yourself and apply yourself more. Perhaps you thought they were assigned by God to make your life miserable. But in reality they were showing you love and pushing you to be your best. There are teachers and coaches who care and teachers and coaches who really care.

Teachers and coaches are my heroes and sheroes. God calls teachers and blesses them with their abilities. They help you learn the  importance of education, how to become a lifelong learner, and help you create a thirst for knowledge. Do you remember that special teacher or coach who really cared? This person went the extra mile for you and motivated you to be better than you thought you could. Somehow, they possess a unique ability to dog you out, stay in your face, kick your rear end and push you to the limit; but you took it, maybe even liked it, and kept coming back for more. You were inspired yet amazed that they would go so far out of their normal teaching responsibilities to help you get it (your education). This is kind of like how Jesus went so far out of His way to die for our sins, to prove how much He loves us.

These teachers and coaches refuse to allow you to fail and make excuses for poor performance. Their passion and compassion overtakes their students. Their tough love guides their students into submission to develop a love for learning and an unquenchable thirst to make their teacher or coach proud of them. You probably still desire your teacher or coach’s approval of your work. I know I do. These people didn’t mind going against parents, other teachers or the educational system itself. They were sympathetic toward your home life and community influence. These teachers and coaches understood your whole-life situation. But they did not allow you to use that situation as an excuse to fail. These are America’s heroes. Continue remembering their teachings and apply those life principles today, because nothing is new under the sun (Eccl. 3).  Write the names of those teaches or coaches who had the greatest impact on your life. Thank God for them, and pray for them and their families often. Visit, call or send a card occasionally. If they are no longer alive, honor their family on their behalf.

“You can never measure the influence of a teacher or coach; their teachings impact many generations.”  Anonymous
